At the 4356th National Foundation Day Ceremony held at the Sejong Center of Seoul Jongno-gu on October 3, 2024, at 10 AM, the artificial intelligence fusion performance team from Emotionwave and RIMA Entertainment presented a special stage. The ceremony, themed 'The Three Thousand Li are Beautiful on the Newly Sprouted Leaf,' conveyed the meaning of inheriting the strong spirit like the hackberry tree and the long history, while wishing for a beautiful and bright future for the nation.
This ceremony was attended by about 1,500 key figures, including the Prime Minister, the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and foreign diplomatic missions, and was broadcast live nationwide via KBS and KTV.
The first act of the celebratory performance, 'Us Together – The Flower of K,' featured a collaboration between the National Gugak Center Creative Ensemble and the artificial intelligence band AI BAND RIMA, showcasing unique art that fuses tradition and modern technology. Korean Fusion Arts Group was responsible for the arrangement, supported the direction by AI BAND RIMA, and Emotionwave maximized the collaboration between art and technology by providing the technology.
During the performance, the original work *'Flower of K'* by Yang Bang-eon was reinterpreted through a collaboration between the National Gugak Center Creative Ensemble and the RIMA Band under the direction of Kwon Seong-taek. The diverse stage was completed with performances from Taepyeongso player Ahn Eun-kyung, Janggu player Yang Jae-chun, and Jung So-young and Park Jun-myeong from the National Dance Company.
Park Sung-hyun, CEO of RIMA Entertainment, stated, "The harmony between traditional instruments and AI technology is the core of this performance," adding, "AI BAND RIMA will serve as a bridge connecting the past and the future through new forms of art." PD So Seong-su of Emotionwave also explained, "This performance, where over 20 Gugak ensembles and professional performers collaborate in real time using On Device AI technology, is an important case that maximizes the fusion of technology and art."
