At 'Gamescom 2026,' the world's largest game show taking place at the Cologne Messe in Germany from August 26th to 30th for four days, the content 'MEW DRUM' is drawing attention for simultaneously establishing unique gameplay and educational aspects by effectively integrating AI (Artificial Intelligence).
'MEW DRUM' is a drum-based gamified music education solution that combines interactive technology utilizing AI with music and rhythm. It connects a tablet app and an electronic drum to analyze the user's rhythmic accuracy and timing in real time, providing an easy touch-based interface so users can learn drums in a fun way like playing a rhythm game.
It is continuously evaluated that its educational effect must be large because it grasps the performance level from beginners to experts, providing immediate feedback and educational effects.

Emotionwave's 'MEW DRUM'

The developing company Emotionwave exhibited this 'MEW DRUM' at the Korea Pavilion booth (Hall 3.2: C050g - D051g) during the 'Korea Game Roadshow' (B2B) organized by the Korea Creative Content Agency, receiving high praise from many buyers. Furthermore, they introduced plans to integrate this 'MEW DRUM' into their independently built game platform, 'MUTA Games.'
'MUTA Games' is a platform that aims for a creative ecosystem supporting indie game developers and solo developers in creating, expanding, and distributing new games more quickly using AI. It is essentially a UGC (User Generated Content) platform where individuals can create, upload, share, and enjoy games, much like 'Roblox.'
What vision does the ecosystem being drawn by Emotionwave with 'MEW DRUM' and 'MUTA Games' hold? This publication visited the Gamescom 2026 site to speak with Senior Senior Senior Researcher Cheon Eun-hyung from Emotionwave.

Q: Game Dong-a: Could you briefly introduce the history of your company, Emotionwave?
A: Researcher Cheon Eun-hyung: Since establishing the company in 2013, we have conducted research and development and commercialization in the fields of music technology, AI, and interactive content for over a decade. Recently, we have been expanding our accumulated AI and media technologies into the game industry, pursuing a global business centered on MUTA Games where games, creators, and content IPs grow together.
Q: Game Dong-a: Could you give us a brief introduction to Emotionwave?
A: Researcher Cheon Eun-hyung: Emotionwave is an AI and interactive content technology company established in 2013. We have developed music AI, immersive content, digital humans, and media technologies, and we are currently connecting these technologies with various content industries such as games, music, and performances.
In particular, through MUTA Games, we aim to build an ecosystem that can mutually grow by connecting AI-based game creation technology, game IPs, and the media/content industry.
We aim to create a market where new game IPs are continuously born by growing together with our own and partner games, such as MEW DRUM, Super Musician, and Band Master.
Q: Game Dong-A: Could you tell us about the milestones for 'MEW DRUM' and the 'MUTA Games' platform?
A: Researcher Cheon Eun-hyung: Currently, we are in a stage of verifying MEW DRUM's global marketability while preparing for the launch of MUTA Games. We plan to secure feedback from users and global partners starting with Gamescom, and subsequently expand the game lineup and platform features.
In the future, we intend to expand into a structure that connects existing games like MEW DRUM, Super Musician, and Band Master with partner games, allowing independent and solo developers to continuously supply new games.
Q: Game Dong-A: Could you briefly tell us what level of performance you expect from the game and the basis for that expectation?
A: Researcher Cheon Eun-hyung: Our short-term goal is not so much about MEW DRUM's revenue itself, but rather establishing global market verification and building the initial ecosystem for MUTA Games.
We have technology and business experience in fields beyond just games, including music, performances, AI, and media, which gives us the strength to expand game IPs (intellectual property) into various industries.
Through this, we see creating a sustainable game market where new games are continuously created and distributed, rather than depending on the success of a single game, as our long-term achievement.
Q: Game Dong-A: Could you please disclose any areas where you have received game investment, support projects, or publishing contracts?
A: Cheon Eun-hyung Researcher: Emotionwave has continuously conducted government support projects in the fields of games, AI, and interactive content.
 2020 Korea Creative Content Agency Game Contents Production Support Immersive Game Sector – Super Musician  2023 Korea Creative Content Agency Game Contents Production Support Artificial Intelligence Sector – MUTA Piano  2023~2024 Ministry of Science and ICT Next-Generation Technology Leading Metaverse Platform AI·Blockchain Sector – MUTA StageCloud
The game, AI, and platform technologies accumulated through these projects are currently the technological and content foundation for MUTA Games.
Going forward, we plan to expand our publishing structure within MUTA Games by securing domestic and international indie games and partner IPs, not only our own games.

Q: Game Dong-A: What are your expectations for Gamescom 2026?
A: Cheon Eun-hyung Researcher: The first is to check the global user response to MEW DRUM. The second is to meet with European indie game developers and publishers to secure excellent small and medium-sized game IPs and expand new publishing partnerships.
Since MUTA Games aims to be a platform that connects various developers and IPs rather than growing solely on its own games, we view this Gamescom as an important starting point for entering the European market and expanding our global game lineup.
Q: Game Dong-A: Could you say a few words to the users who are waiting for the game?
A: Researcher Cheon Eun-hyung: MEW DRUM is the beginning of a new game ecosystem that we are preparing.
In the future, through MUTA Games, we plan to continuously present various games including Super Musician, Band Master, and other partner games, not only MEW DRUM.
We would appreciate it if you could watch together the new experiences that will be created by the combination of AI, games, music, and media, and the growth of MUTA Games.
