Emotionwave (CEO Rio Jang) will launch a robot karaoke system equipped with artificial intelligence and robotics technology in existing karaoke environments in the second half of this year.
Unlike singing along to background music created based on MIDI audio tracks through speakers, a small AI performance robot can recognize existing music by itself and perform it using learned techniques, allowing users to experience maximized acoustic quality while playing real instruments. Furthermore, it is possible to view lyrics and sheet music on a 360-degree display expressed as extended reality (eXtended Reality), communicate in real time with online connected customers, and even hold live collaborations.
The biggest advantage of the robot karaoke is the richness and excellence of content created with artificial intelligence music technology. The deep learning performance engine has learned playing techniques based on hundreds of thousands of overseas songs, enabling the robot to play most domestic popular songs by performing them on real instruments.
The AI robot music technology that Emotionwave successfully developed independently in 2017 gained recognition by showcasing various genres of music such as K-POP, jazz, classical, and electronic at overseas performances with musician Kirara at SXSW 2019 in Texas, USA, as well as at '2019 Intel Technology Open House (Konred Hotel Yeouido)', Pangyo ICT Convergence Culture Center, Korea Content Agency, Changwon City, and Siheung City performances domestically.
Emotionwave already received significant interest from many overseas music industry professionals by showcasing an unmanned music performance system at 'CES 2020' in Las Vegas, USA, last January. This system could not only perform approximately 36,000 songs but also recognize and instantly play/perform almost all types of music at a professional level.
As an unmanned ensemble service, we are solidifying our value and plan to expand globally with the launch of a robot karaoke, targeting locations such as Texas in the US, Japan, and Hanoi in Vietnam starting in January 2021.
Park Seong-hyun, team leader at Emotionwave Strategy Planning Team, said, “Artificial intelligence music technology has been utilized not only for performance as an instrument but also for visual effects. Now, the era when the public can enjoy music by directly using robots and artificial intelligence technology will soon arrive.”
