The non-face-to-face era brought about by COVID-19 has created new ways for leisure activities. From online performances to drive-in concerts, walking-thru festivals, it is a new normal that minimizes contact with people.
Furthermore, the walking-thru (Walking-thru) festival is an exhibition viewing and experience method in which visitors can maintain social distance while moving. It has the effect of blocking 3M (close contact · crowded · enclosed) which are risk environments for COVID-19, and dispersing people in an open outdoor environment.
Amidst ongoing social distancing, an immersive festival where people experience ICT (Information and Communications Technologies) while strolling through the city center of Uijeongbu was held, comforting the weary citizens with content and culture.
Gyeonggi Province (Governor Lee Jae-myung) is holding the 'Digital Walk Future Show 2020' at the Citizen Plaza area of Haengbok-ro in Uijeongbu City for four days from November 26th to the 29th, with the theme 'Experiencing Future Technology in Daily Life'.
Future Show 2020 will be held in the area of Uijeongbu Station and Haengbok-ro Citizen Plaza, linked with surrounding commercial areas. To prevent the spread of COVID-19, it has been set up as a walking tour experience.
It operates as an experience hall to explore future technologies, including Virtual/Augmented Reality (VR/AR), and the accompanying forum will also be conducted non-face-to-face and broadcast on online channels.
Major programs include media facades that project various images of light onto the exterior wall of Uijeongbu Station using projection mapping techniques, digital signage displaying immersive videos with LED double-sided media walls, live commerce featuring local youth, AR concerts, AR bus stops, VR/AR experience zones, and a VR cinema.
The media art 'Wave,' which garnered significant attention when installed at COEX Atrium, has been set up as a large-scale media wall at this festival. The giant wave is recreated in the downtown area of Uijeongbu, transcending space and time to provide visitors with a new experience.
Furthermore, blockchain visitor passes using blockchain encryption technology are issued for safe personal information management, and autonomous disinfection robots conduct regular temperature checks on visitors and sanitation within the festival grounds.
At the 'My Dream Future Gyeonggi Province' booth, a space was provided where citizens could freely present their opinions on the desired future image of Gyeonggi Province in the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
In particular, to revitalize the local economy in the post-COVID era, big data will be analyzed by surveying the age groups, gender, and preferred content/technology of visitors and participants during the festival period.
The Future Forum, held on the 27th to 28th, will broadcast lectures and virtual discussions (webinars) from 34 famous domestic and international speakers, including Professor Lars Hansen, the 2013 Nobel laureate in Economics from the University of Chicago, on YouTube. Lectures cover various topics, from smart technologies applicable to alleyway commercial areas to analyses of the COVID-19 situation and economic growth forecasts.
The 'Digital Stroll Future Show 2020,' hosted by the Gyeonggi Contents Agency and held for the first time this year, was planned by Uniwon Communications, a cultural content company, with startups in the content field participating as creators, and was sponsored by Uijeongbu City.
Hanwha Corporation/Pyrotechnics Division, well-known for the Seoul International Fireworks Festival, also participated in the Future Show. The media facade, which featured an immersive performance combining a three-dimensional video resembling a fireworks festival on the exterior wall of Uijeongbu Station with live sound and lighting show, delivered a special emotion that thrilled both the eyes and ears of the visitors under the theme 'Connecting to the Future.'
The Future Show 2020, an immersive ICT festival held out of concern for people who are being left behind by rapid technological changes, can be experienced with various programs where one can experience future technologies in daily life, and it will be available at the Happy-ro area of Uijeongbu City until the last weekend of November, the 29th.
Although physical distance from people has increased due to COVID-19, the Future Show, which proceeds through a walking-through format, delivers warm comfort to people as a digital stroll that warms the heart.
