Unlike traditional concerts that take place with live audiences at specific venues, Rima Public is a concert service where visitors can enjoy music by having an unmanned instrument and performance system curate and play instruments in a location without fixed boundaries. Born from combining AI technology and robotics control technology based on data sets created by learning the characteristics of music by genre and performer using machine learning and deep learning technologies, Rima Public can be applied to various instruments such as piano, drums, guitar, bass, marimba, and percussion. In particular, it utilizes Extended Reality (XR) technology to enhance visitors' on-site immersion and allow them to enjoy rich soundscapes. Furthermore, it is a band system that allows for real-time ensemble playing, singing, and dancing in conjunction with Rima Public Zones located far away.
In addition to playing instruments according to the music repertoire, Rima Public also provides an AI curation platform service where it plays music upon request from customers via smartphone. Emotionwave's CEO Jang Soon-chul added, "We are currently learning about 100,000 songs, and including music information that is not registered or has been canceled with the Copyright Association, there are over 200,000 songs," adding, "Based on this, we provide services that not only play music but also create data sets for creative directions to generate songs in a similar style."
The background for 'RIMA Public' to digest various genres of music is that Emotionwave possesses the technology to analyze and refine musical information and acoustic data—organized by genre, emotion, style, and instrument—and algorithmize them so they can be combined into melodies and rhythm patterns. 'RIMA Public', launched this June, is providing concert services at various public institutions and corporations nationwide, including Siheung Industry Promotion Agency, Korea Workers' Compensation & Welfare Service, and Korea Petroleum Quality & Distribution Authority. Following 'Jazz Mechatronica' and 'Visual Mechatronica', 'RIMA Public' has successfully developed 'Gugak Mechatronica,' the world's first AI-created traditional Korean music performance with support from Siheung City, thereby expanding the spectrum of AI concerts.
Director Jang Soon-chul said, "We held a RIMA Public concert in an offline performance at Changwon Traditional Market," adding that, "Through events collaborating with invited singers and local student dancers, we saw the potential for RIMA Public to be utilized in various fields beyond just providing concert services and concert zones." Director Jang stated that his goal is to "provide a music platform service that fuses IT media and AI music technology." He further introduced that, "The next strategy for RIMA Public is to create a new concept of entertainment space where customers can become creators by applying our '5G Concert Zone' to various fields such as ensemble performances, karaoke, live music broadcasting, and music education."
Meanwhile, Jang Soon-chul, CEO of Emotionwave, which plans to launch 'MuLearn,' a non-face-to-face education platform for teachers and students in national and public schools, domestically by the end of the year, added that "we plan to support MuLearn to educational institutions for music education and artists who are experiencing difficulties due to the COVID-19 pandemic," and "we want to provide an immersive music education solution through AI music technology and robotics, and create a musical environment where many people can participate in creation and culture/art activities more easily." Along with this, Director Jang added that they are planning for entry into the North American market to provide the RIMA Public AI concert platform not only domestically but also overseas.
