Emotionwave (CEO Rio Jang) participated in EDIX 2022, held in Tokyo, Japan, from Wednesday the 11th to Friday the 13th. The company introduced its K-pop education platform mew Global (mew) as part of its expansion into Japan’s education market.

EDIX 2022, Japan’s largest IT education exhibition, took place at Tokyo Big Sight. Held annually since 2010, the exhibition marked its 13th edition that year.

Emotionwave introduced mew to an overseas audience for the first time at EDIX 2022. The AI-based music education platform helps users learn K-pop and music through mobile apps, AI instruments and the metaverse. Built on Emotionwave’s education technology, it connects online and offline services and links mobile and metaverse experiences, supporting the full music learning journey.

mew assesses learners’ music skills quantitatively and recommends a curriculum suited to their level. It offers access to approximately 30,000 music and video resources, along with real-time remote learning that lets users around the world find teachers and take lessons through the platform.

At EDIX 2022, Emotionwave presented four services: mew Mobile, a mobile education platform; mew AI, including AI pianos and other music devices; mew Metaverse, a metaverse education platform; and mew Music Place, an offline learning space supporting the full learning journey.

Jo Seung-hyun, head of the MEW team, said, “K-culture continues to grow in popularity worldwide, but there is still a shortage of systems that can deliver professional music education remotely. Through mew, teachers in Korea can offer lessons to overseas learners, while international K-pop fans can learn from professional educators in Korea.”

Jo also expressed the company’s intention to enter Japan, citing the lack of specialized music education platforms and the popularity of K-pop. “Through EDIX 2022, we have confirmed interest from approximately 40 companies and institutions in areas ranging from IT music classrooms and improved learning environments at music colleges to franchising in Japan. Discussions are underway,” he said.

The Korean version of mew’s music education service was scheduled to launch officially in July that year.
