One of this year's highlights was the annual Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Spain, where global startup companies showcased AI-related new technologies concluded. This year focused on three areas with the greatest future potential, including digital healthcare and green technology. Innovations such as medical robotic arms, VR-based learning platforms, and unmanned electronic drums attracted considerable attention.
At MWC in Spain, amidst the sounds of opera's Carmen, a person was standing while wearing a VR goggle conducting. This was part of an immersive learning platform developed by Muse Scene Lab.
Muse Scene Lab CEO Parra: "Muse Scene Lab is an immersive learning platform that allows musicians to practice and interact with a virtual orchestra. It acts as a rehearsal simulator. Our first model consists of an orchestra conductor. By wearing headphones and using hand movements with the Oculus Quest 2, one can conduct an orchestra in real time."
Another notable innovation was the unmanned electronic drum that operated without human control. The CEO of the Korean startup, established in 2013, has expertise in computer science and music composition.
Rio Jang, CEO of Emotionwave, said, "There is no complete connection with any other performer without a professional musician. That's why we created this concert system."
4YFN (Four Years From Now) is an entrepreneurial event that promotes exchanges among global startups at MWC. This year focused on three areas with the greatest future potential: digital healthcare, green technology, and products derived from universities. One notable creation was a robotic arm developed by a team of doctors and software engineers based in Barcelona, aiming to provide accurate surgery globally at a lower cost.
Amart, founder of Rob Surgical: "Our design is particularly for soft tissue robotic surgery, applicable to gynecology, urology, and general abdominal surgery. While it covers a wide range of surgeries, we need to develop a system for neurosurgery."
This surgical robot has been undergoing clinical trials on patients at Barcelona Hospital since May 2023 and is scheduled to receive European certification in the second half of 2024. There is also a new suite of software products that can help doctors assess the risks of spinal surgery.
SimOSpine technology developer: "Previously, orthopedic surgeons performed surgeries blindly without considering outcomes or results. But now, we can predict surgical risks using pre-operative patient data."
Duran, a director at 4YFN: "I believe that startups have played an important role in the modern economy. We have seen many success stories, and events like 4YFN have become central to MWC, which is amazing. Many startups have proven their worth by becoming large corporations and creating market value."
